Wouldn't Be Ready To Go Various Artists
A hefty helping of obscure field recordings of southern blues – served up in a well-done package that's in the best Mississippi Records mode! The material here was all captured in the field by Bengt Olson on a trip through the south in the late 70s – and as with older field recordings, there's a spare, haunting vibe to the material – usually just a singer and an instrument, all with a quality that feels a lot more ancient than the recording date might make you expect! Titles include "Tell Heaven I'm Coming" by Othar Broadnax, "A New Born King" by Davide Johnson, "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" by Bishop Perry Tillis, "If I Die In The State Of Arkansas" by Ashley Thompson, "Stuttgart Arkansas" by Walter Miller, "On The Road Again" by Lum Guffin, "Bottle Up & Go" by Bootleggers Quartet, and "Goin Away Blues" by Lincoln Jackson.
