Stellar new Bluebells double album set for April 2026.

Future musicologists will have fun mapping out a group like The Bluebells whose career trajectory is oddly symmetrical. They started out a group of pals slightly in thrall to Orange Juice and the Postcard scene which they were part of. Then they had a massive twice over hit, then they kind of went on a decades long sabbatical. And now they’re back, very much back, a group of pals making their best music since they started out.

The 16-track album was recorded live and co-produced at Beetroot Studios in Airdrie with producer Stuart MacLeod and the band. For the first time the album features songs written collaboratively by all members of the current Bluebells line up. It’s very Glasgow, very west of Scotland – touchstones include Marmalade, Blue, Aztec Camera and Teenage Fanclub. It’s exactly the record The Bluebells should be making right now.

“The main idea behind This is…The Bluebells’ was for the three original Bluebells, Robert ‘Bobby Bluebell’ Hodgens and the McCluskey Brothers, David and Ken, to write collaboratively with longtime friends and live band members Campbell Owens (Aztec Camera), Douglas MacIntyre (Port Sulphur/Creeping Bent) and Mick Slaven (The Leopards). The band had become a finely-tuned unit over the previous 10 years including stand out performances at Glasgow’sBarrowland Ballroom for Celtic Connections 2025 andGlastonbury Festival 2025. We were performing all over the country but we had never really captured the live feel that we had created as a collective at gigs. The previous album, the highly acclaimed‘The Bluebells in the 21st Century’released in 2023 was more of a studio project with Bobby, Ken and David penning four songs each individually at home during the Covid lockdowns.

We are very satisfied with the recording of the 16 songs on this album and we feel ‘This is…The Bluebells’ is a very apt title.”.
