This Heat: Charles Bullen, Charles Hayward and Gareth Williams emerged as a band in early 1976 on the leading edge of what became the New Wave. But they were always apart, more scary and more subtle.
Known as the most left-field, and at the same time most hard-edged, band in the country, their concerts attracted experimental, Punk and New Wave audiences alike. In short, This Heat was alandmark band. It tore up the book and laid new rules for band composition and performance. The music was without precedent; the musicians uncompromising; the recordings hammeringly intense and the sound deep, radical, and rich. This was music stripped back to the bone but never simplified. And it hasn't aged.
The Box contains all the material released while they were together, newly re-mastered by surviving members Charles Hayward and Charles Bullen. The five releases were: This Heat (Blue and Yellow), Deceit, Health and Efficiency, Repeat and Made Available. In Addition, compiled and mastered specially for the box, is This Heat Live 80/81, assembled from various concerts in Europe, as well as a definitive 48 page book of newly made interviews and articles, historic photographs, memorabilia and documents that trace the history, and contextualise the work of the group.
