There's some real poignancy on the latest from Steve Moore and Daniel O'Sullivan. Dystopian and reinvigorating, Romantic and nihilistic, it's EBM-influenced synth rock, or vice versa, and then none of the above. Electro-gothic, industrialised disco, tracking syncopated loops beneath cinematic strings, running over retro snare hits. This is the music of 1980s dark rooms, post-apocalyptic kink parties and the future as was envisioned in the recent-ish past. It's as human as it is mechanical and as such asks some pretty poignant questions about the relationship between the two. Which is in charge, are we part of it or is it part of us? And just how much does the technology inform what is being said and what we understand is possible?
