DERO Arcade in collaboration with Infinite Expanse
Synergy Trilogy Synergy Trilogy
Part of the constellation of intrepid Melbournite musicians (read-Microscene) that also comprises Who Cares? and Prophetic Justice Ministry, Synergy Trilogy's debut album has just emerged thru the dry-ass ice on London label Infinite Expanse. Across these deeply atmospheric eldritch folk pop gems the layer between the otherworld and this is micro-thin. Think inspired cassette-pop, glittering and mouldy at the same time, featuring twin-female vocals drifting out in and out of darkness but perennially in harmony. The touchstones make me think of Rose McDowall's Sorrow while songs like Holo Law offer up smudged mirrors to lazers made of ghosts or ghosts made of lazers, downbeat and gorgeous. Some of these tracks wouldn't sound of place on the Skygirl comp that Efficient Space gifted to the world? Dark Passengers is all doom boom and gloom with a hooky refrain that borrows and never leaves. It's Pop Music, but the best kind, our kind, auto-didactic and in touch with the netherworlds between dream and grit.
