Known for his seminal post-punk bands Nocturnal Projections and This Kind of Punishment as well as his equally influential solo records such as The Last Great Challenge in a Dull World, Electricity, Elevator Madness, and Closed Circuit, Jefferies has been one of the towers of the New Zealand underground music community since the early 1980s. The Day They Let You Out Is The Day They Might Not Let You Come Back is a new masterpiece in an already staggering catalog. Only Peter Jefferies could take a quarter of a century off from songwriting and come back as if a moment hadn’t passed. If anything the world has given him even more to grapple with and his voice is as urgent and necessary as ever.
