Eagerly, eagerly anticipated full length debut from Los Angeles- based Mo Dotti who teased a monolithic, edifying album with two sold out E.P.s months back. Opaque is shoegaze, sure, but there’s such a loving attention to detail and environment-swallowing texture that Mo Dotti really shine.
Swirling around a perennially-melancholy sounding vocal straining to grasp for hope through the fug and gauze, Opaque pushes Mo Dotti’s sound signatures into the stratosphere. Waves and waves of distorted and chorus’d guitars are the bedrock, weaving between eachother and crashing down like waves of pleasure. Touchstones are Isn’t Anything-era MBV, Slowdive and Split-era Lush or maybe that’s because the vocals share Emma Anderson and Miki Berenyi’s innocent rendering of a kind of quintessential British sadness that seems to have swept through the West Coast of the USA’s guitar groups of late.
Whatever, it’s absolutely divine.
