Tales From Film City Warren James
Tales From Film City is the gently swaggering debut album from Warren James, You should know that Warren James are James Kirk (Orange Juice) & Warren McIntyre (Starry Skies), joined for live outings by Hal on bass and Michael (V-Twin/1990s) on drums.
James Kirk is a legend, a star, a true maverick. A founding member of Orange Juice, his vivid, distinctive playing is all over most of their classic tracks. His own songs include Felicity, Wan Light and Three Cheers For Our Side. He was also a member of Memphis and released his own LP in 2003, You Can Make It If You Boogie.
Warren McIntyre is the singer in the 7-piece Starry Skies. He has performed live across Europe - including at Paris’s famous ‘Caveau de la Huchette’ and the Prague Opera Hall - and in New York’s East Village. Starry Skies melody driven songs have found an audience on over 100 radio shows worldwide - including New York’s WFMU.
James and Warren recently joined forces after being asked to play the opening of the exhibition ‘Christmas Day Down A Goldmine: A New Seam’ by artist Willie Sutherland and then at Glas-Goes Pop, in 2022. They have become a prolific songwriting duo since then and their first single, limited edition double AA side Miss Green Tea / Costa del Culzean, was featured on both Scottish Radio and 6Music (Gideon Coe)..
‘Tales From Film City’ was mostly recorded in the songwriting / recording studio they have established in Glasgow’s Film City in Govan - the same place where Franz Ferdinand recorded their debut. The album also features input from Gerard Love (ex-Teenage Fanclub) and Chris Geddes (Belle & Sebastian), amongst others.
It’s a brilliant snapshot of this slightly unlikely combo - odd and loveable, Glasgow in early evening sunshine. There’a clear trajectory between Felicity and a song like Iron Star - if you’re into OJ you will be into this - for sure.
Limited to 500 copies on vinyl - 400 on Jet Black vinyl, and 100 on Snazzy Orange vinyl (Monorail exclusive) - also on CD. Our copies are signed.
