Second City Static 001 Gerard Love / Jack Mellin
Second City Static is a new project curated by two Glasgow-based DIY labels, Errol’s Hot Wax and Watts Of Goodwill. A series of live gigs in Glasgow, each event will feature two artists or bands performing at The Old Hairdressers to coincide with a split 7” single featuring both artists. Each 7” will be available on the night of the concert and is included in the ticket price.
Luckily for those living outside of Glasgow, Each 7” will be available through Monorail Music after the event. SCS001 features our longterm friends Gerard Love (ex-Teenage Fanclub) and Jack Mellin (Spinning Coin, L and more). Gerard Love presents a home-recorded cover version of “Summer Holiday” by the German group Seaside Stars. Although recorded in his kitchen a few years ago, it was mixed with Paul Savage at Chem19 & mastered by Samuel J. Smith of Green Door Studio in the summer of 2024. Utterly gorgeous and liberally swathed in harmony, it’s always a soothing joy to hear Love in his element.
Jack Mellin’s song “Wild Light” features Chris White on drums and Simone Antigone on backing vocals. It was recorded & mixed by Chris White at Unit 15, Bridgeton and was also mastered by Samuel J. Smith. “Wild Light” is taken from “Very Sparrow”, the debut album by The Mary Column (Jack Mellin & Friends) due around March 2025. Stepping into the light, Mellin is usually known for his guitar performances and acrobatics but on Wild Light we’re treated to Mellin in bittersweet beauty. This is an absolute gem of a song.
