Gruts, and Other Wireless Menu: Collected Radio Scripts, 1959 -1965 Ivor Cutler
An important document, Gruts... collects the self-penned monologues and sketches Cutler made for the BBC Home Service.
Before The Beatles, before John Peel, and even before he turned to poetry, Ivor Cutler was a radio star. His self-penned monologues and sketches for the BBC Home Service were an instant hit, charming adult listeners and children alike, via the weekly entertainment shows Monday Night at Home, Don’t Look now and his own series The I.C. Snow.
Gruts, and other Wireless Menu brings together almost 100 prose pieces written for BBC Radio between 1959-65. This includes the contents of previous collectinos Gruts, Cock-a-doodle-don’t! and Fremsley, as well as seventeen recently rediscovered stories exclusive to this edition not available in any form since their original transmission.
This is the definitive collection of Ivor Cutler’s early work for radio, taking the reader back to the beginnings of a career which went on to span half a century.
Edited and introduced by broadcasting historian Ian Greaves.
