This sonic feast of a record travels across your headphones, seeps into all corners of the brain and immerses you in Geese’s strangely contradictory universe; where catchy hooks and smooth grooves are challenged abruptly by abrasion and maximalist layering. Unafraid of a groove change, you’re never quite given the opportunity to sit back in your chair!

Following frontman Cameron Winter’s much-adored 2024 solo record Heavy Metal with something distinguishably and uniquely Geese, seemingly presented no challenge for this New York gaggle. Somehow, Winter’s pitstop offering of a beautifully gentle solo record seems to have only stimulated an even further leftfield contribution.

Yet as abstract and unpredictable as Getting Killed feels on the surface, it’s rooted in classic rock and possesses the sort of swagger and soul you’d expect from a band 30 years into their career. They strike up a clattering, beautiful confection of noises, reminiscent of something as grand as Nick Cave yet as joyous as The Beta Band or Primal Scream, without leaving the comfort of their own realm; journeying from panic attack to deep breathing exercise in an 11 song excursion. Their latest venture is clear testament as to why this quartet are being hailed “one of the most respected bands of their generation”.
