Monorail Music

Online Retail Assistant

Full Time: 4 Days / 32 Hrs Per Week

Monorail Music is a Real Scottish Living Wage Employer.

Monorail Music is an established, community-focused record shop in Glasgow city centre and we are looking for someone to join our online retail team on a full time basis. Having opened in 2002, we are at this point an established operation and are proud to be regarded as one of the best-loved record shops in the world. Since the launch of a new website in 2022, we are continuing to expand and grow our online operations. We are looking to find a new member of staff who will be joining us at this important and exciting time and contributing to our community.

The online side of Monorail Music is dynamic, flexible and skilled. It’s fast-moving, exciting and sometimes even fun. This post mixes the need for organisational skills and a structured approach with the potential to contribute creatively. Working closely with the Online Manager, you will be responsible for delivering excellent service to our customers and have the opportunity to engage creatively. This will involve contributing to and developing campaigns, curating and creating editorial content and occasionally helming the company’s social media accounts.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Post / Customer Orders

Stock Control / Inventory

Social Media / E-Marketing

Campaign Planning

As the Online Assistant’s role overlaps and complements that of the Online Manager, it’s important they’re able to take care of day to day basics while also being able to contribute to the creative side. At times of holiday this will substantially increase so it’s important to be able to cover some aspects of the Online Manager role at those times. The successful applicant will also be expected to work in the bricks and mortar shop.

We expect applicants to be well-versed in and have a passion for independent music and culture. Having previous experience in social media and the music community at large will be very valuable to the role, with previous experience in music retail a bonus. Good writing skills and some knowledge of programs/platforms like Mailchimp, Twitter, Instagram, Photoshop, WooCommerce/Wordpress and Facebook would very useful.

Benefits:

  • 30 Days per year holiday pro-rata
  • Flexible hours within reason
  • Shop discount
