Hello,
A few Fridays ago, I spent my (very late) night scrubbing blue paint out of my trousers and t-shirt. There’s still a few stubborn splatters on my shirt but I don’t really mind. Why was I covered in blue paint, you ask? Because I’d just screen-printed my very own Pastels poster at Glas-Goes Pop! (with the help of Matthew Rich), seconds before the Pastels took to the stage. And why don’t I mind that there’s still some blue on my t-shirt? Well…it’s a reminder of the festival and everything it means; music, friendship, community, art – and also that I finally managed to screenprint something myself.
Thanks to Glas-Goes Pop! for an incredible few days of community and amazing music. It has become such an important annual event in Glasgow. We loved it. We’re going to do our best to keep the feeling going, keep the plates spinning. The Pastels Monorail merch store is officially open.
If you’d like your very own GGP souvenir, minus the blue ink all over your shirt, then you’re in luck. Based on the legendary Pastelism fanzine, with new separations by Paul Kelly, we’ve got a small amount of hand-screenprinted posters by Matthew Rich / M.A.R.S Print Studio. These were printed live on the night by Matthew in the drawing room. Printed brilliantly on A3 300 gsm heritage rag cotton paper and signed by Stephen Pastel. Incredibly limited and made with loads of care and attention.
Also hand printed in Glasgow by the finest of folks, we’ve got Pastelism 1, 2, 3 t-shirts on the site too, in a selection of sizes on Stanley/Stella Ochre coloured blanks. You can pick a shirt up here, or a red Pastelism tote bag here. Both hand printed by Kenny at T-shirt Cat and designed by the group themselves.
What will you put in your tote bag? Well, there’s plenty room for two essential Pastels 7”s. First, a re-stock of Sonic Youth + The Pastels’ ‘Play The New York Dolls’. The music we love passes from one generation to the next and the New York Dolls will always be a group to celebrate. Both Sonic Youth and The Pastels are not only fans but covered two of their most iconic songs a few years apart, in 1987 (The Pastels – Lonely Planet Boy) and 1992 (Sonic Youth – Personality Crisis). Also on the site for the very first time is Advice To The Graduate / Ship To Shore, originally released for RSD 2020. Two previously unreleased BBC tracks recorded for John Peel at Maida Vale studio, 1997. Advice To The Graduate is a cover of the Silver Jews (of course) from the album Starlite Walker and Ship To Shore is a Pastels original sung by Annabel Wright (Aggi). Here.
We’ve also had a big restock of a few stone cold Pastels classics, if you’ve got enough space left in your Pastelism tote bag. Slow Summits, The Last Great Wilderness and Two Sunsets.
Check yr heart
Lauren
