JON SAVAGE

In Conversation with Phil Eaglesham, in celebration of The Secret Public.
SUNDAY JUNE 30th

7:30pm

THE GLAD CAFE
1006A Pollokshaws Rd
Glasgow G41 2HG

We’re so thrilled to announce an event with the legendary Jon Savage in celebration of his new book and cd, The Secret Public, a dazzling account of the dreamers and divas who brought a queer sensibility to culture – and lit up all our lives. Jon will be joined by musician and activist, Phil Eaglesham (P6).
Jon Savage is one of the greatest cultural historians of our time – it’s inevitable he’d turn his focus on the LGBTQ influence on music and entertainment, alighting on the key years, 1955 to 1979, and focusing on a series of vivid artists like Little Richard, David Bowie and Sylvester.
The Secret Public, the name taken from a collage zine collab between Linder and Jon (sold through Buzzcocks fan club), is a searching examination of the fortitude and resilience of the gay community through the lens of popular music and culture; it reflects on the freedom found in divergence from the norm and reminds us of the need to be vigilant against those seeking to roll back the rights of marginalised groups.
We’re delighted to offer an extremely limited amount of stand alone tickets and super attractive bundles too
