One more for the road? Yeah, the company’s good, why not?

Here’s to the unlikely, heartwarming return of The Bluebells. Melodic, joyous – a celebration of West Of Scotland life in the 21st century.

The Bluebells In The 21st Century is a rich, reflective collection of songs by Robert Hodgens, Ken McCluskey, David McCluskey and former member, Russell Irvine. It features exclusively new, in the moment, work – 12 vibrant, headstrong songs including the singles Gone Tomorrow, Blue Train & Ballad of the Bells that capture perfectly their natural mixture of optimism and melancholy. The album was recorded in Glasgow’s Green Door Studios in May/June 2022 and was mixed and mastered by Paul McGeechan.

We worked with The Bluebells during lockdown on a special edition of their Sisters album and produced a fanzine called Yesterday Was Another Day. It was a document of Glasgow in the early 1980s and the group’s place in it. This new record is very much the story of their place in it now – it’s an emotional revisiting, their lives entwined in the honesty of shared experience.

The artwork is beautiful, modern, signature Jim Lambie (with input from Robert Hodgens). It shows a group that is presenting as now rather than as nostalgia. A winning move.
