Huerco S, having built a reputation as a distorted disco master, pulls a curve ball with his ambient opus, For Those Of You Who Have Never (And Also Those Who Have.) Put simply, it’s one of our Staff Faves of the year so far, a swirling, enfolding album that embraces minimalism and understated, paired down synth-work. Huerco S’s skill is in constructing a drifting, instrumental synth masterpiece that doesn’t explicitly reference the usual touchstones for such a work. Instead, he’s constructed a Glassian piece with recurring melodies and sub-structures that crystalize and entice the listener into a codeine-sque state. There’s also a wealth of emotive power behind the record, with a heightened sense of pathos to be found in the folds of the synth pads.
