Edinburgh-born, Glasgow-based Lewis McLaughlin was inspired by the likes of John Martyn and Villagers to begin writing and recording his own songs. After performing across Europe in various outfits, accompanying his father at folk shows and playing with his brother in a folk duo, it was time for him to go solo.

Out on Andy Monaghan‘s (Frightened Rabbit, Jill Lorean) label, Monohands, McLaughlin’s debut nods towards his roots of Scottish Trad/folk but with a wonderful twist of electronic beats, a scattering of synths and static, accompanied by layered harmonies. With themes of first love, leaving home and mental health struggles scattered throughout the record, it takes you on the very relatable journey of feeling lost and unsure at a certain age, seeking a way to understand the world around you and find connection. Big things to come, we’re sure.
